Unit 2 Positions through triangulating 02

Last week, I tried to switch the aspect and found few more new direction from what I have already done until now. I thought it would be interesting to explore about ‘what if the object or non-human thing has memories?’ , ‘what is the connection or overlapping points between human’s memories and memory of non-human object?’ ‘what is actually a memory of an object?’ ‘visible memory vs invisible?’ etc. … But, I couldn’t iterate enough and I wanted to make a turn. Also I got some feedbacks related to this and I decided to think more thoroughly about what I genuinely explore and the reason of it.

After second week of tutorial, based on what I got from feedbacks I started with questioning about my enquiries and keywords again. Last term, starting from feelings related to spaces, I explored memories about places and their migration.(travel ; re-building them, make those mobile physically 2D and 3D at the same time). Back to that end point, I questioned myself and my own project regarding what I want to explore further and where to move on. And I started to focus on my memory.

Started with dismantling questions. Memory? What is remembering something? Why did I wanted to interrogate memories & space?

How does my own memory look to me? how do i express that?

Things I have been collecting since I was teenager. They are in Korea

I have been collecting things which I think are memorable since about more than 10 years ago, not only positive ones but also stuffs that are related to my fail or bad memories. Mainly they are not so huge and seem trivial generally like receipts, pamphlets, tickets like general things related to where I’ve been to or meaningful moments ; – ex. place I have went to with my mum… but I also collect a piece of note, wrapping paper, plastic bag or a piece of an object which are quite could be seem nonsense and trashy-like.

Since I came to London last September 2021, I’ve been also collecting stuffs, (some of them including things I collected in this summer Korea & things I brought from Korea that i want to keep in London while im staying here)

The air in which this butterfly once hovered is today wholly imbued with a word – one that has not reached my ears or crossed my lips for decades. This word has re-tained that unfathomable reserve which childhood names possess for the adult. ….Walter, B. (2006) Berlin Childhood around 1900. Final version. Cambridge, Massachusetts, London, England: The Belknap press of Harvard University Press.

through the writing, walter (2016, p52) keep talking about not only illustrating the space and memories about quote from the book but he contemplates about the memories about the childhood and connects them while making parallel with the present (adult) and compares those. I am still reading the book but at the moment it was impressive and influenced me thinking about why I collected these and made me think if it was old, then what is the difference between how I remember these now and then. Do I even remember this??

After sorting and grouping them, I had question -> what are ‘we’ or ‘others’ doing to remember / record / archive / preserve / commemorate / etc …. something? And what are the differences of each words? what are these each behaviour focusing?

The questions I had & interesting points after the iterations that I wanted to explore further

-> actual object – edit – process / steps,processes,transit

-> it is worth for me, but for others?? personal archiving vs something to show someone _ what is the difference

-> the context between the object and the position/situation => changes in context?? changes the usage

-> removing the background

-> the way of record is various.. what is the goal and what are they focusing on,

-> time capsule??

-> why did i mainly collected the flat or small items. mobility ? (could be similar to last term and i kinda want to make turns? i dont know)

-> universial design

While exploring the few ways of record or behaviour we do, I had many questions and also wanted to explore their intentions. But I came across another method which people do, time capsule.

I of course knew what it is, but never looked this up or search about it, and I wanted to see its actual process and the intentions.

objects to put inside of the time capsule – historically important, objects which has material that is not changing that much. not too huge, the items that you want to preserve for descendant, casual personal event between friends, family, couples, alumni etc

intention? to celebrate, to commemorate, to celebrate of the construction of the building , new law, graduation, anniversary (foundation, 10 yrs etc) public business reason, personal, celebrate etc

highly related to location where it is buried

material of it, inductions, cautions elements etc

excavate? open? after at least 50 yrs, 100 yrs is general.
