I chose a bus stop close from my flat as a site for investigatings.
First I just visited the but stop and took some photos from far ahead in different times to see the outlines of the place.
First I just casually explored the area, observing the people around the bus stop.
- I mainly focused on where people are standing / positioning themselves while they are waiting for the bus.
-> When they are at the bus stop alone, they prone to wait quite far form the actual bus stop. For examples, trees beside the bus stop, behind the bench at the bus stop. (Out of the booth) They usually used their mobile phones or listened to music.
-> When people were accompanied, in a high possibility they stayed inside of the booth, or sat on the bench with the people they came with.
- Components
-> Standing bus sign, Bin, Booth, Bench, Commercial Walls, the ground shape is different.
Second, I specified the spot for investigate, narrowing down the sight.
- Human made doodles, graffiti and stickers. Some marks.
-> It was hard to figure them out what they are meaning, but I could see many scribbles , marks and personal commercials (customize stickers)
There were also variety of signs made for the announcement, convenience or warn.
- Bus arrival time, bus map, rules, numbers, fares, customer centre …
-> I found out that these signs and informations are making some contrasts to the privious marks.
I could see few kinds of pipe hole covers, took photos of them.
- Covers
-> Listing words ; Square, rectangle, circular, energy, grid, yellow, shadow, position
There were trashes left by people
- Rubbish
-> But most of them were small ; cigars, popsicle stick, umbrella.
TFL logo at the back of the bus stop was damaged a bit.
- Damaged logo with the scribbles
-> Seeing this made me to think about distortion, damaging and changing informations. Clarity, visibility, how hard will it be to recognize the logo when it’s distorted or damaged? If we want to make it unrecognizable, how much of damages will it need? Then, will it lost it’s value? Will it be still available to give the information it suppose to give?
- Duplicating, warping, mixing, covering.
-> First with the TFL logo I tried to make different distortions. But it was pretty much obvious therefore I needed to damage it a little more.
